Border Terriers - tough, brave, determined!

Hi Borderjoy, I thought you might like to see a recent set of pictures from last weekend. Hana & I have been busy hiking every week and have now finished climbing 96 of our second set of 100 peaks - almost there!

I had been nervous about last Saturday's route in the Northern Alps because it involves many iron chains and ladders due to the steep, crumbling rock faces, and because tragic accidents are frequent.

Starting before dawn, we covered 20 miles and 3000 meters up and down. Although I had to carry Hana over the steel-rung ladders, she managed everything else by herself. But like any dog, she struggled with the intense summer heat and sunshine, and would have been happier in pouring rain.

Coming down by sunset, we cooled off with a dip and a long drink in the icy snowmelt river, whereupon exhausted Hana immediately fell asleep on the rocks. It had been a good day. And no complaints from her the whole way. Border Terriers - tough, brave, determined doggies!

Thanks to all for the nice comments. Hana's already 6, so has few active years left - we'll try to make the most of them.

Hi Julian,
I have a couple of 11 year old Border Terriers, a 13 year old and 14 year old who will tell you that 6 is a mere bagatelle and that Hana has probably got more than a few active years left! Oh and don't forget the next instalment for the Border Terrier Club Year Book! HINT!

You are so right about that. My 7 year old Border, Derby just had emergency disk surgery this past Friday. Although a slow go, he is resting comfy and should be back to ruling the back yard soon.
He is a determined little guy and does not know how to throw in the towel.
Probably why I love him so!

That's great to hear Hana is likely to carry on for much longer than neighbors have warned me, but then they don't have a BT or understand what they're like!

Kathy, what a nice surprise to see your comment, and thanks for the reminder about writing another article for the handbook. I promise I will.

Derby - hope he gets back to normal antics soon.
